Problems with addresses After Conversion

After a sucessful conversion, your address book only has a few addresses or the addresses are garbled. This comes about because the orginal addressbook (the one you converted from) contains illegal characters. By illegal characters I mean non ascii (non-text) characters that somehow found their way into your addressbook file. Most e-mail programs just skip these characters and continue to operate. Netscape, however, cannot accept these. When the characters are carried across in the translation, Netscape cannot read the address book. We try to trap these and not carry them across, but we are not always successful.

To solve this, open your input file in Wordpad or Simpletext. The illegal characters will appear as small squares. Just edit them out and then translate again.
